The Overview:
What is Audio Description?
Similar to narration or radio plays where unseen action must be described, Audio Description is the verbal depiction of visual images. This accessibility service is used by audiences who are Blind/Low Vision/Visually Impaired to more fully experience cultural events.
Who is The ADLN?
The ADLN formed to expand the use of effective, representative Audio Description in regional theaters by training new Audio Describers, cultivating audiences, and sharing our findings. The ADLN includes artists, audiences, venue staff who provide and/or use audio description services.

Partnerships, Projects and Programming:
The Accessibility Cohort: The ADLN belongs to a group of over 30 Performing Arts venues and service providers who meet monthly to discuss strategies for increasing accessibility to and within the arts.
Audio Description Resources: The ADLN provides resources for those who wish to learn more about audio description. This includes a directory of service providers and tips for offering audio description. We welcome collaboration and feedback that helps us meet the needs of those who use audio description and those who wish to provide it.
2023-24 AD Training and Fellowship: The ADLN received support from Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to develop a new audio description recruitment and training initiative. We facilitated listening sessions with local theater venues, audiences and service providers to design a program that diversified the bench of audio describers for theatre in the Philadelphia region.
